The Senior Data Governance Specialist is responsible for establishing and maintaining robust data governance practices across Ayvens Bank. This role focuses on data quality, retention, compliance with internal and external data policies, and ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements such as GDPR and BCBS239. The Senior Data Governance Specialist plays a key role in supporting data-related projects, improving data hygiene, and ensuring that data is handled responsibly, consistently, and securely throughout its lifecycle.


Ayvens Bank is an Online Savings bank. The bank started its activities in the Netherlands in 2010 and expanded to Germany in 2015, currently serving over 280,000 clients and managing more than 14 billion euros in assets. Ayvens Bank consists of a team of approximately 30 employees. The IT team currently consists of five people and works closely with three major outsourcing partners.


Senior Data Governance Specialist is a full-time role.


Key expertise area: Data Governance & Policy Management (30%)

  • Develop and maintain the data governance framework for Ayvens Bank
  • Define data ownership, roles, responsibilities, and stewardship structures
  • Coordinate with relevant departments to implement and enforce data management policies
  • Monitor adherence to data usage guidelines and escalate policy breaches where needed
  • Support training and communication efforts around data management policies and good practices
  • Key Expertise area: Regulatory Compliance & Data Retention (30%)
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations including GDPR, BCBS239, and internal data handling requirements
  • Implement and maintain the Group data retention and deletion policies for structured and unstructured data to support data lifecycle management
  • Support risk and compliance teams during audits and data-related assessments
  • Maintain documentation of processing activities, data flows, and retention schedules
  • Coordinate with outsourcing partners to ensure their processes align with Ayvens’ data retention and compliance standards
  • Collaborate with the information security teams to align data governance with cyber security policies and frameworks
  • Act as DGS Coordinator for delivering Deposit Guarantee Scheme reports to the DNB

Key expertise area: Data Quality & Hygiene (20%)

  • Define and enforce data quality standards across systems and processes
  • Collaborate with IT and business teams to identify and resolve data quality issues
  • Support initiatives for data cleansing, enrichment, deduplication, and monitoring
  • Contribute to system and process improvements to reduce data inconsistencies and fragmentation

Key expertise area: Project & Stakeholder Support (20%)

  • Provide support for data-related projects, including data migrations, system changes, and reporting enhancements
  • Act as a liaison between IT, security, compliance, and business teams on data topics
  • Maintain strong working relationships with outsourcing suppliers for topics related to data, retention, and governance

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Business IT, Data Science, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of data governance principles, frameworks and regulatory data requirements (e.g. GDPR, BCBS239)
  • Familiarity with data management tooling is a plus
  • Certification in data governance & management (e.g. CDMP)
  • Familiarity with cloud data governance tools (Collibra, Microsoft Purview)
  • Minimum 5-8 years experience in the Data Management field
  • Experience working in a regulated financial environment, preferably banking or insurance
  • Hands-on experience with implementing or supporting frameworks related to data retention, data quality, or metadata management
  • Good communication skills in both Dutch and English (both oral and written)
  • Comfortable navigating in a hybrid environment with internal and outsourced IT landscapes.
