Role Title: APB Underwriting-Analyst Location: The Netherlands Type: Permanent Purpose of the Role Affinity and Programme Business (APB) is a centralised function in the LSM Europe region. The team has responsibility for developing and centralising underwriting strategy, governance, distribution, service and operations, that provides LSM Europe with a consistent capability and enhanced approach to delegated underwriting, coverholder and MGA’s. APB is also well placed to capitalise on changes in the market caused by digitalisation, facilitation and new customer products and services. APB is part of Liberty’s Portfolio Solutions capability and supports our European strategy for SME and lower mid-market specialty business. Through delegation and digitisation Portfolio Solutions provides both external partners and internal colleagues with a low touch and efficient model and a differentiated value proposition. This model also requires a differentiated underwriting approach, and the APB Underwriting Analyst role is critical in supporting all stakeholders, ensuring our coverholder and MGA partners receive best in class support. This role has two key areas of responsibility:
  • Support the Liberty Underwriting teams (mainly in The Netherlands and mainly on GL and PI) with APB related Underwriting activities.
  • To provide oversight, co-ordination and support to the APB Underwriting Manager across all functions and associated processes, procedures, controls and systems necessary to facilitate efficient and effective management and monitoring of APB business.
  • The role will have a double reporting line into the Underwriting manager GL in The Netherlands into the APB Underwriting Manager for Continental Europe.Key Responsibilities
  • In collaboration with Underwriting teams, assist with review the underwriting elements for new binder opportunities to ease and accelerate the approval processes for European APB relationships.
  • Coordinate and manage coverholder referrals or questions.
  • Support work for standardisation, product development and innovation of our SME products that are distributed via APB partners and coverholders.
  • Apply a portfolio management view and oversight for PI and Casualty (and other Lines of Business as required) to ensure efficient underwriting performance that is in line with our strategy.
  • Monitor and coordinate, prior to renewals and started in advance of notice of cancellation periods, the renewal requirements including, underwriting performance analysis and strategy, proposed underwriting changes or strategy.
  • Coordinate and participate in Underwriting Audits.
  • Support to the APB Underwriting Manager with reporting requirements to various executive and management committees.
  • Managing special projects as and when required.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Providing a local point of contact for APB underwriting

  • Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience of underwriting SME + business in APB/Portfolio Solutions, portfolio management or a LOB underwriting experience
  • Good understanding and familiarity with the Dutch insurance market. Knowledge of other European markets is recommended
  • Knowledge and experience in the Insurance Markets in APB (affinity, facility, scheme, portfolio solutions and binder) business and underwriting processes.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of underwriting and underwriting processes. The UW background could be pure underwriting with experience in both Casualty and PI.
  • Comfortable reviewing detailed underwriting information, piecing it together and preparing summarised case files with clear & efficient communication.
  • Project management: ability to demonstrate an organised approach and ability to manage different stakeholders across the business - effective stakeholder management; works effectively and collaboratively within and across LSM.
  • Report writing skills / strong ability to work on wordings rates and guidelines
  • Effective knowledge of legal and regulatory regime.
  • Suitable understanding of financial and actuarial principles to assess risk.
  • Using analytical tools including Excel and other tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Fluent in English and Dutch - Additional European languages a benefit - but not essential
