OIA Global Amsterdam is looking for a Customs & Freight Forwarding Specialist to join our dynamic logistics team. This dual-focus role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about compliance, precision, and customer satisfaction.

We are looking someone with experience in customs and freight forwarding, ideally within the Dutch logistics sector. You will need strong knowledge of customs procedures, import/export documentation, and tax regulations.

You will be responsible for:

Freight Forwarding:

  • Coordinating international and domestic shipments with carriers and logistics partners.

  • Managing documentation for ocean freight, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, and packing lists.

  • Monitoring shipment progress and proactively resolving delays or issues.

  • Liaising with clients to provide updates and ensure smooth end-to-end delivery.

  • Supporting rate negotiations and booking arrangements with freight providers.
  • Customs Clearance:

  • Coordinating with Branch Manager to ensure Accreditation is always up to date and in place.
  • Quality control of all customs declarations.

  • Suppling tariffs for operations department and calculate duties and VAT when required.
  • Processing paperwork related to incoming and outgoing shipments according to customs laws.

  • Investigating the origin and destination of goods whose origins are unclear or which may be counterfeit or stolen.
  • Provide and assist with general customs enquiries.

  • Perform all Customs and Excise related functions and import documentation.

  • Ensure all incoming shipments are cleared as quickly as possible to avoid demurrage costs.

  • Stay abreast of changes in import or export laws or regulations by reading current literature, attending meetings or conferences, or conferring with colleagues.

  • Advise internal and external clients on the following:-
  • Import and export restrictions.
    Tariff systems.
    Insurance requirements.
    Quotas.
    Other customs-related matters.
  • Library on all clients detailing history on shipment.
  • Preparing relevant documents on routine customer correspondence for future reference purpose.

  • Proactively escalate complex or serious issues to the appropriate team or manager when they fall outside your scope or expertise
  • What we need from you:

  • Customs Compliance expertise

  • Freight Forwarding knowledge, particularly Ocean Freight

  • Documentation and Logistics Software proficiency

  • Comfortable using Microsoft office

  • Good planning and organising skills

  • Ability to solve problems and make good decisions

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Good attention to detail

  • The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
