Company Overview
We are working with a nationally significant energy infrastructure operator, currently seeking a Mechanical Project Manager to support the delivery of large-scale mechanical works in the northern Netherlands. The client is involved in the development and upgrade of critical gas transmission and storage infrastructure as part of the country’s long-term energy strategy.
Role Overview
As Mechanical Project Manager, you will be responsible for the coordination and execution of mechanical works on-site, including piping systems, pressure equipment, and rotating/static mechanical components. You will work closely with engineering teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure timely delivery, safety compliance, and technical quality across multiple work packages.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical scope of work across infrastructure projects in Groningen and surrounding regions
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, electrical, commissioning) and third-party contractors
- Monitor progress, manage risks, and implement corrective actions where required
- Supervise installation of mechanical systems (piping, valves, flanges, supports, etc.) in compliance with technical standards and regulatory guidelines
- Support QA/QC inspections, safety briefings, and work permit processes
- Liaise with internal engineering, procurement, and site management teams
- Track project milestones and maintain accurate technical and progress documentation
- Report regularly to senior management on project performance and site activity
Essential Requirements
- 5–10+ years of project management experience in mechanical engineering, ideally in gas, petrochemical, or large industrial environments
- Strong knowledge of pressure systems, piping installations, and mechanical integrity standards
- Experience working on high-specification, regulated infrastructure projects (e.g., gas transmission, process plants)
- Strong understanding of Dutch safety regulations and quality procedures
- Fluent in Dutch and English
- Bachelor’s degree (HBO/WO) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Solid coordination and communication skills, with the ability to manage interfaces between contractors and internal teams
Desirable Qualifications
- VCA-VOL certified
- Experience with NEN, ISO, and PED standards
- Familiarity with long-lead mechanical equipment procurement and installation cycles
