We are seeking a Life & Physical Science Instrument Engineer to work on our Customers Site (ESA-ESTEC) in the Netherlands, supporting the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality. This is a fantastic opportunity to get into one of the most sought-after space agencies in the world.
Main Responsibilities
As Life & Physical Science Instrument Engineer you will concentrate your activities on the following:
Provide engineering support to ESA projects in the area of human physiology and biologyContribute to technical specifications for planned research and development activitiesSupport the evaluation of project designs and development resultsPlan, set up and run test activities in the microgravity laboratoryDesign and implement laboratory test set-ups, including breadboard testing and sample evaluation for Life Support activitiesAnalyse, interpret and report data from biological and physiological experimentsSupervise gravity research activities in the TEC-MMG LIS laboratoriesPrepare and carry out experiments using the Large Diameter Centrifuge (LDC), Random Positioning Machines and related equipmentOperate and maintain the Large Diameter Centrifuge at ESTEC, including services for commercial customersLiaise with the science community to organise gravity-related experimentsProvide input to technology and science strategies related to diagnostics for life and physical science experiments supporting exploration. Master’s degree in Life Sciences or Engineering SciencesBackground and experience in gravity-related researchAt least 4 years of relevant work experienceKnowledge and experience with optical diagnostic methods (e.g. optical microscopy)Strong expertise in (micro)gravity research for life and physical sciencesLaboratory experience in the biomedical fieldExperience in space technology projectsCandidates must be EU nationals.On offer
