Senior/lead data engineer – €85.000 – €105.000 | utrecht / hybrid

We’re hiring a hands-on Data Lead who combines technical depth with leadership, communication skills, and the ability to shape both systems and team culture. You’ll play a central role in turning data into a strategic asset.

About the company

Our client is building a compact, high-impact data team to reduce reliance on external consultants. The company has a clear growth strategy and data plays a crucial role in improving internal operations, platform performance, and strategic decision-making.

As Data Lead, you’ll coordinate two engineers, own the architecture and pipelines, and become the go-to expert for stakeholders across the business. This is a great opportunity to build, lead, and influence at the same time.

What you'll do

• Coordinate a small data team (currently 2 external engineers)
• Maintain and improve the data architecture (Azure-based)
• Handle complex technical requests (queries, integrations, performance tuning)
• Develop reporting in Power BI
• Act as the key stakeholder liaison — bring visibility and clarity
• Champion innovation (data quality monitoring, forecasting, tooling upgrades)
• Contribute to the cultural and structural maturity of the internal data team

What you bring

• 5–8 years of experience in data (engineering, BI, architecture)
• Experience in a lead or coordinating role
• Strong technical foundation and stakeholder management
• You combine strategic vision with hands-on execution
• Fluent in English
• Living in the Netherlands and available in Utrecht 2 days/week
• Valid EU work permit required — no sponsorship
