As an Engineer in Offshore & Shipbuilding, you play a crucial role in creating safe, sustainable and efficient projects on or offshore. From shipbuilding to floating offshore platforms.

Responsibilities

  • As an Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer at Damen Naval, you play a crucial role in ensuring that our advanced naval vessels are designed, built, and commissioned with perfectly arranged power systems and cable configurations, fully compliant with strict regulations and requirements.
  • Depending on the vessel’s configuration, your electrical design will include a strictly EMC-compliant power distribution system for strategic defensive and deterrent systems – even under the most demanding conditions.
  • You will work and collaborate according to the V-model within our 3DExperience engineering environment, ensuring that basic and detailed designs are thoroughly reviewed, tested, and verified during both the design and production phases. The highlight of your work? The launch of a new naval vessel, ready to defend our freedom worldwide!
  • Key accountabilities
  • In this role, your responsibilities will include:
  • Contributing to functional descriptions, drawings, and other basic design documents for power distribution, lighting, and other electrical systems.

  • Participating in the ship’s Integrated Topside Design (ITD) to ensure all (military) equipment operates correctly.

  • Ensuring compliance with Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), one of the most important design requirements within the overall ship design.

  • Preparing detailed test and validation plans to ensure compliance with Class regulations and customer requirements during virtual tests (simulations) and practical trials (FAT, HAT, SAT).

  • Managing suppliers and subcontractors to ensure their designs meet strict EMC requirements.

  • Reviewing designs from suppliers and subcontractors and assisting in integrating them into the ship’s design.

  • Developing and maintaining standards and working methods for engineering and commissioning.

  • Supporting the proposal and quotation stages to ensure EMC requirements are fully integrated into the conceptual designs of electrical systems.

  • Providing technical support or participating in commissioning activities.

  • Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in designing complex electrical systems (including large-scale power distribution systems), preferably in the maritime, offshore, or industrial sector.

  • Experience in designing EMC-compliant solutions; knowledge of TEMPEST regulations is an advantage.

  • Professional experience working on complex projects, involving multidisciplinary teams and multiple suppliers and subcontractors.

  • Experience working in a model-based system engineering (MBSE) environment according to the V-model.

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or another relevant discipline.

  • Excellent references, as a security screening will be part of the recruitment process.

  • A permanent EU nationality is required for the recruitment process due to the military nature of our projects.

  • At STAR, your career is our primary focus. We match you with challenging projects, offer personal guidance and create opportunities for you to develop your career. Together we ensure that you get the most out of your career.
