Optiver is looking for its next generation of Institutional Traders to join our Amsterdam office. Our ideal candidates are individuals with a unique blend of astuteness and numerical skills who are passionate about staying on top of financial markets and making split-second decisions that will have direct impact on our P&L. 


As an Institutional Trader, you'll be responsible for communicating with our long-standing network of brokers dotted around Europe and the US. You'll handle incoming price requests and collaborate with our screen traders, playing a vital role in the trade's lifecycle. Relationship management will be a crucial part of your day to day, be it with your team or with external parties.


What you'll do:


As an Institutional Trader, you will be at the forefront of the market, making important decisions based on your intuition, analysis, and market insights. You will be instrumental in executing our large-order trading strategies and negotiating the best possible prices with speed.

  • Identify and capitalise on market opportunities both independently and within the trading team;

  • Make split-second trading decisions that can instantly impact profitability;

  • Constantly aiming to identify new product/market opportunities in order to diversify our strategies and maximise success;

  • Improve execution and access to volume;

  • Network internally in order to make the best informed decisions;

  • Build and maintain relationships with your team, brokers and direct counterparties (DCPs);

  • Represent Optiver’s quotes and execute orders with many of the world’s largest trading desks via phone, IM, and Bloomberg;

  • Negotiate prices with the Brokers and other relevant parties;

  • Help improve our systems and tools in order to capture data in the most effective way;

  • Understand and apply knowledge of the exchanges’ rules & regulations and market structures in which we engage;

    • Who you are:

  • You have a high EQ and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to positively influence outcomes

  • You possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. English fluency is a must

  • A professional with 2 to 5 years of working experience, preferably with a degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Econometrics, Finance, Physics or equivalent (STEM)

  • You have the ability to work well under pressure / are resilient

  • You have an entrepreneurial mindset

  • You are detailed oriented

  • You are competitive by nature

  • You thrive making fast decisions and handling a high volume of trades – often simultaneously
