About the Role

An international Oil & Gas corporation in North Holland is seeking an Electrical Engineering Technical Authority / Lead to strengthen its engineering leadership team. Based in Alkmaar, this position plays a key role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and optimized performance of all electrical systems across both onshore facilities and offshore installations in the Dutch North Sea.

You will act as discipline Technical Authority, lead a small team of electrical engineers, and collaborate closely with Projects, Maintenance, and Operations to safeguard reliability today while shaping the long-term operability of critical assets.


Key Responsibilities

As Technical Authority (TA) for Electrical Engineering:

  • Define performance standards for all Safety & Environmentally Critical Elements (SECEs) and ensure compliance.
  • Approve deviations and lead corrective measures in case of performance standard failures.
  • Set and oversee maintenance requirements for electrical systems and equipment.
  • Ensure all electrical systems meet or exceed relevant legislation and industry standards (ATEX, IEC, NEN).
  • Resolve non-routine problems, perform root cause analyses, and drive corrective actions.
  • Work with Installatie Verantwoordelijke (IV) to guarantee electrical safety in design, installation, and operations.
  • Maintain integrity of electrical documentation and ensure regulatory compliance.

As Engineering Lead:

  • Coordinate and mentor the electrical engineering team, ensuring effective prioritization and delivery.
  • Manage the discipline budget, contribute to project planning, and provide technical support to modifications, improvements, and new projects.
  • Set electrical design standards, including hazardous area classification, documentation requirements, and commissioning protocols.
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables from both internal teams and external contractors.
  • Supervise contractors during installation and commissioning, providing field presence and quality assurance.
  • Independently manage selected electrical projects from concept through to execution.
  • Participate in feasibility studies, FEED, and detailed design work.
  • Oversee third-party engineering vendors and monitor compliance with standards and procedures.


What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering, ideally in Oil & Gas, offshore, or heavy industrial settings.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • LV & HV systems
  • Electrical drive systems
  • ATEX requirements & hazardous area equipment
  • Relevant electrical/instrument standards
  • Fluent in Dutch and English (both required).
  • Hands-on field experience troubleshooting and resolving electrical equipment failures.
  • Strong decision-making ability and confidence to act as an authority on technical matters.
  • Client-side operational facility experience (onshore/offshore) is a plus.
  • Experience with: HAZOP, SIL, safety-related reviews, and project engineering.
  • BOSIET and VCA VOL training preferred.
  • Ability to work offshore and travel to remote sites when required.
  • Must be eligible to work and live in the Netherlands.
