Senior Engineer - Control and Automation – Royal IHC, Rotterdam, South Holland, Netherlands

Senior Engineer - Control and Automation role within the Custom Engineering department, PLC/SCADA team. You will work on advanced dredging projects ranging from dredging vessels to simulators in a collaborative environment. You will typically work with a Project Manager, Lead Engineer, and fellow engineers. Your main focus is programming and developing technical designs, with opportunity to innovate by creating new functionalities and standards. There is potential to mentor junior colleagues and, for ambitious individuals, a future Lead position.

Responsibilities
  • Design, programming, and testing of control and automation software that monitors, processes, and measures systems in dredging operations.
  • Develop and code applications that integrate and optimize control systems; draft detailed functional specifications to guide work.
  • Configure and implement user interfaces using SCADA packages, ensuring seamless integration with PLC systems (e.g., Allen-Bradley or equivalent) into the overall system architecture.
  • Set up system configurations and conduct thorough testing with simulation tools to ensure robust performance across projects.
  • Contribute to a multi-project workload, supporting the success of maritime and simulator initiatives.
Your profile

To excel in this role, you have:

  • Maritime or shipbuilding experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of and experience with designing, programming, and coding.
  • Relevant work experience and the ability to think and work at a higher professional (HBO/Bachelor or University/Master) level.
  • Experience in configuring different types of networks.
  • A solid foundation in technical English; proficiency in Dutch is a plus.
  • Must hold an EU work visa (residents only).
  • Only candidates with a valid EU work visa will be considered.

  • A gross monthly salary between € 4.122,- and € 6.280,- +8% holiday allowance (based on a full-time working week).

Selection process

After your application, a CV screening will take place. If your profile aligns sufficiently, a brief telephone intake with the Corporate Recruiter will follow. If not, you will be informed via email. The selection process consists of two interview rounds: first with the manager and a direct colleague; second with another manager and someone from HR. If everyone is enthusiastic, a phone call will follow to discuss terms of employment.
