Material Solutions is a new business area within GKN that industrialises new manufacturing solutions, with the ambition of making the aerospace industry more sustainable.

By combining GKN’s existing expertise in design and manufacturing with groundbreaking additive manufacturing technology, we develop innovative solutions that require significantly less material than conventionally manufactured aero-engine components.

Using the same technological capabilities, we also design lighter and more functional products, with the aim of reducing aviation’s climate impact.

We are now looking for a commercially driven and relationship-focused Commercial Officer to support our Material Solutions US business. In this role, you will be responsible for commercial bid management, contract administration, customer negotiations, business development support, and funding opportunities. You will play a key role in helping us grow across aerospace, space, defence, and energy markets while strengthening our commercial capabilities and competitive position.

Job Description

As Manager Commercial & Contracts, you will be the focal point for commercial activities related to Material Solutions US. You will oversee bids and contracts throughout their lifecycle, coordinate negotiations with customers and partners, and contribute to strategic business growth initiatives.

Key responsibilities

  • Leading and coordinating all commercial bids, proposals, and contract negotiations for Material Solutions.
  • Developing and maintaining revenue forecasts, order books, and commercial performance reporting.
  • Supporting business development activities, customer engagement, branding initiatives, and market analysis.

    • Additional responsibilities:

  • Structure and continuously improve bid processes and bid data management.
  • Ensure commercial and contractual documentation is maintained, updated, and properly stored.
  • Collaborate closely with Programmes, Business Development, and Commercial teams on forecasts, bids, market opportunities, and customer requirements.
  • Participate in customer discussions regarding future business opportunities and strategic partnerships.
  • Identify opportunities for market expansion, partnerships, joint ventures, and new product offerings.
  • Coordinate and support cost reduction initiatives to strengthen competitiveness.
  • Maintain commercial customer interfaces in collaboration with Programme teams.
  • Monitor market trends and developments within aerospace, defence, space, and energy sectors.
  • Identify, track, and support funding and grant opportunities, including those related to offset agreements.
  • Contribute to the annual sales plan and long-term business planning activities.

    • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Law, Economics, or a related field.
  • Several years of experience in commercial management, customer relations, contract negotiations, or similar commercial functions.
  • Previous experience working within the aerospace industry or a highly regulated industrial environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong understanding of business financials, commercial principles, and contract management.

    • Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with government-funded programmes, grants, or offset agreements.
  • Experience working across international markets and customer environments.
